Using Baking Soda for Heartburn

If you feel that well known burning in your chest after you eat, whether it be too much, too fast or just things you are not supposed to, search for a remedy. There are as near as many cures as there are causes. Peruse your medicine cabinet for one of those foul-tasting pills, scan the drugstore shelves for chewable tablets, bring to memory grannies` homemade potions. Or, alternatively, just take a little baking soda for heartburn.

It´s effective.

There are a vast number of reasons as to why heartburn arises. A person should endeavour to find out what detonates heartburn in them and then solve the problem. That which causes the burning sensation never varies, even though the heartburn itself may have a plurality of causes. The esophagus is seized by a small amount of acid that has burst upward from the stomach through the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Be it a recurrent or a habitual problem, acid is at the root of it. Baking soda for heartburn proves to be effective because it is an alkaline. That, or an antacid, are the weapons needed to combat acids.

The LES, the stomach and the esophagus are all in close proximity to each other, which might cause something to overflow from time to time. Fortunately, there are some natural ways to aliviate the problem. When a bit of acid makes its appearance along with a burp, it can be solved swallowing: saliva does the trick. If your mouth is a tad dry, some chewing will solve the problem and help produce the needed saliva. To keep things from going from the tummy upwards, a cool glass of water will do just that, and feel good at the same time.

There are times when that cool glass of water is not enough and you need something a bit more potent to do away with that caustic taste. That´s where baking soda for heartburn comes in: it`s a natural, gentil, non-damaging antacid. It´s part of many recipes for cookies, cakes, all good stuff. So mix in a spoonful of baking soda for heartburn into your tall glass of pure water and you´ll see: it´s fas-acting relief.

Now, if your heartburn comes back with too much frequency, perhaps it´s time to consult a physician. There are many illness and medications that can cause heartburn, things like asthma medication, painkillers, high blood pressure medication, antihistamines all can cause collateral heartburn. If none of these apply to your case, then sit back, stir in a bit of baking soda for heartburn into your post-meal water and enjoy the relief.

Can you use baking soda to get rid of indigestion or gas?
Some told me the once used baking soda to get rid of heartburn, but they didn’t tell me how much to use. Do think this would actually work?

WOW! Haven’t seen that one in a while. I used to use it all the time: it’s cheap, no side effects and it really works (for heartburn)! I’d use 1-2 teaspoons in water. Just don’t do it RIGHT after having an acidic food (like orange juice or other fruit), unless you want a Pop-Rocks party in your stomach!

Just put a teaspoon of Baking soda in a glass of water and drink it down. It absolutely will help with stomach acid (it is a base after all – base and acid cancel each other). The thing is, it doesn’t taste pleasant, and it is REALLY high in salt. So don’t use this if you have high blood pressure. It absolutely will work in a pinch though, I have used it many times. I don’t think it does anything for gas though.

BTW, I think it says right on the box how to use it as an antacid.

Good luck,

yes…it works well and quickly. mix 1 teaspoon in 2 cups of water. you can use more water if the taste is to strong. its sometimes written on the side of the box. baking soda may also be used for toothpaste and to treat bee stings and sunburns.

Yes, mix a tablespoon of baking soda with about a cup of water. It will work, but tastes really nasty.
